Funding confirmed for EPC improvements – but will it be enough?
A new funding pot has been announced to support energy efficiency improvements in England, with grant cash to be focussed on low income homes. The money will be distributed through the ‘Warm Homes: Local Grant’ scheme, with landlords eligible to receive up to £30,000 towards improvements to their first rental property, and £15,000 for work on additional homes to let.

Twenty-one people chasing every rental property, says Zoopla
An average of 21 people are competing for every rental property advertised, according to new figures from property portal Zoopla. The figure is more than twice the pre-pandemic average and up from an average of 15 recorded in the last report in June.
Renters’ Rights Bill to be published today
Labour’s new Renters’ Rights Bill will be published later today. NRLA Chief Executive Ben Beadle met with housing minister Matthew Pennycook and Labour Peer Baroness Taylor of Stevenage yesterday along with other stakeholders for a briefing about the contents of the Bill, which the Government says will ‘give greater security and protections for 11 million renters’.

New figures out today show the rental housing crisis is worsening – with the number of former rental homes up for sale hitting record highs. The NRLA said the data, from property portal Rightmove, is bad news for all tenants looking for a home, with a bold new approach needed if the Government is to tackle the massive imbalance between supply and demand.

NRLA backs calls for better standards – not more red tape
The NRLA has added its voice to calls for positive change to drive rogue landlords from the sector. In its role as a member of the Lettings Advisory Board it has helped craft recommendations to Government - explaining the Government’s plan for a new landlord database is ‘an opportunity to create transparency of property safety and drive rogue landlords from the sector’.
Tax breaks for furnished holiday lets axed from next year
Furnished holiday lets (FHL) will now be treated in the same way as other rentals when it comes to tax, with changes coming in from April next year. The plan to abolish the FHL tax regime was announced in the Conservative budget this spring, with the new Government announcing detailed proposals to bring the plans forward as a priority.
