Creating your tenancy
A tenancy agreement is a document that sets out the terms of a tenancy. Having a written tenancy agreement is a good way of making sure that the rental conditions between you and your tenant are clear, but which type of tenancy is right for you?
You have 1 person, couple or a family who will be renting the whole property
You have 1 person, couple or a family who will be renting a room in the property
You have 2 people who wish to rent a property who are not related and who will be renting the whole property
You have 3 or more people who wish to rent a property who are not related and who will be renting the whole property
You have 2 or more people who wish to rent a property who are not related and who will be each be renting a room within the property
You live in the property, and someone will be living in a room in my house and we share use of the kitchen, living room and bathroom
You live in the property, and someone will be living in the same property but will not share living space such as the kitchen, living room or bathroom.
For example, you may have converted your property into two flats with you living in one and your tenant living in the other self-contained flat .
This agreement should NOT be used for an annexe that was built separate to the rest of the house or another flat in a purpose-built block that you also live in.
