Adapting rental homes - an invitation to join our focus groups
As the UK’s demographics increasingly shift towards an ageing population, the private rented sector (PRS) will accommodate a growing number of tenants with distinct accessibility needs, leading to increased demand for adapted or accessible properties.
This means landlords will need to be prepared to meet a broader range of tenant needs than they have typically dealt with in the past.
However, the sector's understanding of the number of adapted properties in the PRS is limited, and, with the allocation rates of the Disabled Facilities Grant (funding specifically allocated for supporting adaptations in the rental market) poor, there are significant concerns about the sector’s ability to meet the growing demand.
Seeking your input
Last year, the NRLA polled its membership to build on existing evidence it has gathered on adaptations in the PRS.
The research found that the number of adapted properties remains relatively low and highlighted several barriers associated with installing adaptations.
To delve deeper into these issues, the NRLA is inviting landlords in England to take part in a series of online focus groups organised by its Research and Campaigns Teams.
Critically, the assocaition wants to hear from those who are reluctant to make adaptations to their properties, as well as those who have already done so.
The focus groups will give participants the opportunity to share their insights and perspectives - on a confidential basis - helping to improve the association's understanding of the topic.
Discussions will delve into the motivations that drive landlords to adapt properties, as well as the factors influencing those who opt not to make changes.
The sessions will also explore other relevant issues, such as potential incentives that may encourage landlords to adapt their properties.
Members will have the chance to offer feedback on NRLA proposals and influence the association's policy position.
Interested?
We are seeking landlords who currently offer adapted properties, as well as those who may be hesitant to do so to get involved.
The focus groups are scheduled to take place during the week starting February 26 during working hours.
