Rent Increases
In Wales
Introduction
As part of the changes that came in with the Renting Homes (Wales) Act, the way that landlords increase the rent has now changed in Wales.
Prior to the 1 December, landlords could increase the rent by -
- agreeing a new contract with their tenants;
- serving a section 13 notice; or
- relying on a rent review clause in their contract if they had one.
This has now changed, and landlords in Wales must familiarise themselves with the new procedure for increasing rent under standard contracts.
This guidance covers rent increases in Wales for occupation contracts. It includes guidance on -
- When a rent increase can be performed;
- How to increase the rent;
- How much can rent be increased by;
- The differences between contracts started before and on or after 1 December
