Rental reform on agenda during first NRLA Landlord Panel
Members of the NRLA’s newly-formed landlord panel had the opportunity to meet and feedback on proposals included in the Renters (Reform) Bill last week.
At a session facilitated by the NRLA’s policy team in Manchester, landlords shared their observations on the proposals in the Bill, published back in May.
Our policy team heeded members’ views, before updating the panel on the NRLA’s ongoing campaigning and hard work to shape the Bill.
Recent campaigning work around the Renters (Reform) Bill has included the NRLA's CEO, Ben Beadle, giving evidence to the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Select Committee.
Other topics discussed during the one-day session included the perception of landlords in the press, and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, two years on from the closure of the Government consultation on improving energy efficiency standards in the PRS.
NRLA campaigning
Now with over 200 members, the NRLA’s landlord panel was established to provide another way for us to listen to members, have open discussions and hear member views on a variety of topics, and ultimately help us improve the membership experience.
The NRLA continues to engage with members on campaigns including the Renters (Reform) Bill, and campaign at the highest level to ensure Government plans to reform the private rented sector are fair and workable for landlords.
Members can use letter templates to write to their MP on the issue of rental reform. The templates have been adapted to highlight the measures needed to ensure landlords can continue to operate once Bill is introduced. Click here to access the templates.
In addition, our Quarter 2 survey includes questions for landlords about rental reform, and specific questions for landlords in Wales around the prospect of rent controls. To take the survey, and be in with a chance of winning a John Lewis voucher, please click here. The survey closes on Monday 24 July at midnight.
