Online event to launch new PRS research

The NRLA will hold an exclusive report launch and panel discussion about the role of the private rented sector (PRS) this January.

The report, commissioned by the NRLA and conducted by Chris Walker from ChamberlainWalker and a former Head of Housing at Policy Exchange, looks at the purpose of the private rented sector, with the discussion centring on its role amidst the current chronic housing shortage and affordability crisis.

The event will be held on Tuesday, 31st January 2023, with speakers to include:

  • Anne Frost, NRLA board member and a former Director for the PRS at MHCLG (Chair)
  • Baroness Alicia Kennedy, Director at Generation Rent
  • Clive Betts MP, Chair of the LUHC Select Committee
  • Chris Walker, Director at ChamberlainWalker and former Head of Housing at Policy Exchange (report author)
  • Eddie Hughes MP, Former Minister for the Private Rented Sector
  • Ben Beadle, NRLA CEO

Malin Joneleit, NRLA Campaigns and Public Affairs Manager said: “To address the severe housing shortage in this country, we need a sensible policy approach that recognises and promotes the role that the PRS plays in providing homes to over 11 million people in the UK alongside supporting homeownership.

“The NRLA commissioned the research in an effort to encourage the Government to think more strategically about the economic and social importance of the PRS in this country and this event is an opportunity to begin to develop a clear, positive, and strategic vision for the private rented sector.”

At the online launch Chris will give a short outline of his findings, followed by an informal panel discussion and a Q&A session.

The virtual roundtable will take place on Tuesday, 31st January 2023 between 10am-11:30am.
