Housing Minister to address landlords at national conference

Housing Minister Andrew Stephenson MP will give the key-note address at the NRLA’s inaugural conference, taking place next month in Coventry.

With some of the biggest changes to renting in three decades on the horizon, the Landlord Conference will explore what lies in store.

Delegates will have the chance to hear first hand from Mr Stephenson on Government plans for the private rented sector.

Hosted by legendary BBC Radio Four broadcaster, Moneybox presenter Paul Lewis, the Landlord Conference takes place at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Tuesday 15th November.

It features a brimming line-up of recognised industry speakers who will take to the stage to offer delegates a wealth of information and practical guidance on future housing law reform, legislative impacts, and upcoming energy efficiency regulation.

Following the publication of the Government’s Fairer Renting White Paper in June, rental reform will be a major topic at the conference.

Barrister at Landmark Chambers Justin Bates will examine housing law reform in his talk: Rental reform, the importance of getting the balance right”, while David Smith, partner at JMW Solicitors, will deliver an essential update for landlords on housing law and legislation change.

With Government proposals for rental properties to have an EPC rating of 'C' or above by 2025 (for new tenancies) and 2028 (for existing tenancies), energy efficiency also features heavily on the conference agenda.

Delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about upcoming energy efficiency requirements for rental properties, from both political and legal perspectives.

Speakers on this topic include Derek Horrocks of the National Insulation Association, Jonathon Werran, CEO of think tank Localis and Russell Smith, MD of Retrofit Works. There will also be a panel discussion and Q&A on this topic, with industry commentator Russell Quirk.

And, with news of rising interest rates and the impact of this on mortgages hitting the headlines recently, we are pleased to announce mortgages expert Doug Hall, of NRLA Mortgages, will also e a guest speaker at the conference, delivering an unmissable presentation on the markets.

The Landlord Conference is brought to you by the National Residential Landlords Association in partnership with Landlord Law. Landlords, letting agents, property managers and those with an interest in the private rented sector are invited to attend.

The conference is jointly sponsored by Total Landlord Insurance and Rentguard Insurance.
