Event description
Join the NRLA for an exclusive report launch and panel discussion about the role of the private rented sector (PRS) on Tuesday 31st January 2023.
The report, commissioned by the NRLA, looks at what the point of the private rented sector is and why we need a vibrant market.
We are excited to welcome the following speakers:
- Anne Frost, NRLA board member and a former Director for the PRS at MHCLG (Chair)
- Baroness Alicia Kennedy, Director at Generation Rent
- Clive Betts MP, Chair of the LUHC Select Committee
- Chris Walker, Director at ChamberlainWalker and former Head of Housing at Policy Exchange (report author)
- Eddie Hughes MP, Former Minister for the Private Rented Sector
- Ben Beadle, CEO at the NRLA
Politically and culturally, Britain is a pro-homeownership society, and this aspiration is cause for celebration. However, often discourse and debate about housing tenures generally pits the private rented sector against homeownership.
To address the severe housing shortage in this country, we need a sensible policy approach that recognises and promotes the role that the PRS plays in providing homes to over 11 million people in the UK alongside supporting homeownership. In an effort to encourage the Government to think more strategically about the economic and social importance of the PRS, the NRLA has commissioned Chris Walker from ChamberlainWalker and a former Head of Housing at Policy Exchange to carry out research about the purpose of the private rented sector, its role in the housing market and what proportion of the housing market should be in the PRS.
To start off the event, Chris will give a short outline of his findings, followed by an informal panel discussion and a Q&A session. This event is an opportunity to begin to develop a clear, positive, and strategic vision for the private rented sector.
The virtual roundtable will take place on Tuesday, 31st January 2023 between 10:00-11:30.
