It's Time to Talk Mental Health
There is much debate about the impact of Covid-19 on our mental health - and landlords are no exception.
NRLA research revealed 40% of landlords surveyed believe the Covid-19 pandemic has had a ‘negative or very negative’ impact on their mental health.
The statistics prior to Covid were shocking, with one in four people set to experience a mental health problem in any given year.
If we combine this with the global concerns about the impact of lockdowns on our collective mental health this shows a deeply worrying picture.
This is only exacerbated when you add financial worries over lost income, empty homes and vulnerable tenants.
Today – Thursday February 4 – is Time to Talk day, an annual event organised by social movement ‘Time to Change’ encouraging people across the country to start conversations about mental health.
With that in mind we would encourage anyone out there struggling with mental health issues – whether Covid-related or not - to reach out to a friend, family member or professional to talk about how they are feeling.
The mental wellbeing of our members is a huge concern for the NRLA – and we will be looking at the impact of the pandemic on landlords – and the help available - in the summer edition of members’ magazine Property.
With that in mind we would like you to get in touch to share your experiences. Have you struggled with a mental health crisis as a result of the pressure of Covid? Have you been able to access help – and what advice would you give to others?
Whatever the nature of your experience, we would be keen to hear from you. Please contact [email protected]
